Romania

Our webpage refers to a region of about 100 square km surrounding the village of SLON, situated in Prahova County (see figure 1), about 120 km north from Bucharest, about 80 km east from the city of Brasov (i.e. about 90 km east from the famous "Dracula's Castle"), on a road parallel to the well-known Valley of Prahova river.

Prahova

SLON (see the map above) is situated at about 700 m altitude (the village centre), in a beautiful mountain region named "The Curvature of Carpathians", surrounded by high peaks like Ciucas (1956 m), Zaganu (1883 m), Tataru Mare (1476 m), Varful lui Crai (1473 m) and Clabucet (1460 m).

The nearest large localities connected to the main access roads are: 18 km to the south the city of Valeni de Munte, 80 km to the west the city of Brasov.

SLON (see images below) is a relatively isolated small village, having about 900 families (census of 1994), being the last and northernmost human settlement from the chain of villages placed on an ancient road making the connection between southern Romania and Transylvania.
